1. About the ACSV as a Professional Association
The Australian Council for Student Voice (ACSV) is the peak body and professional association dedicated to development and promotion of student voice, agency, and partnerships in education. As a membership-based organisation, ACSV brings together students, educators, researchers, school leaders, policymakers, and industry partners.
By joining ACSV, members gain access to a national network of professionals and advocates, along with opportunities for collaboration, professional development, and engagement in initiatives that shape the future of student empowerment in Australia. As an independent body, ACSV upholds the highest standards of integrity, inclusivity, and professionalism, ensuring that student voice is not only heard but valued and actioned.
Membership in ACSV is governed by our Constitution and this Membership Code of Conduct, which outlines the responsibilities and expectations of all members.
2. Purpose and Scope
2.1 This Membership Code of Conduct outlines the principles and expectations for all ACSV members to ensure a respectful, professional, and collaborative community.
2.2 The Code applies to all members in their interactions with each other, ACSV staff and volunteers, partner organisations, and the broader education community, including conduct at events, meetings, and online forums.
2.3 This Code aligns with ACSV’s mission to champion student voice through ethical, inclusive, and constructive engagement.
3. Member Responsibilities and Expectations
3.1 Commitment to ACSV’s Mission and Values
Members are expected to uphold and actively contribute to ACSV’s vision of an education system where student voice thrives. This includes supporting initiatives, advocating for ethical student participation, and fostering an environment where all perspectives are valued.
3.2 Respect and Inclusion
Members must treat all individuals with respect, dignity, and kindness, promoting a culture of inclusivity and belonging. Discrimination, harassment, or any form of exclusionary behaviour will not be tolerated.
3.3 Integrity and Professionalism
Members are expected to act with honesty, integrity, and professionalism in all ACSV-related activities. This includes behaving in a positive and responsible manner, and communicating respectfully in discussions, debates, and correspondence.
3.4 Ethical Advocacy and Engagement
ACSV encourages members to advocate for student voice ethically and constructively. Members should:
Engage in evidence-informed and student-centered advocacy.
Respect diverse perspectives and experiences in discussions.
Avoid misrepresenting ACSV’s mission or using the organisation’s platform for personal or political gain outside of its stated objectives.
3.5 Accountability and Collaboration
Members are encouraged to actively participate in ACSV initiatives, contribute constructively to discussions, and be accountable for their actions. This includes:
Fulfilling commitments to working groups or initiatives they join.
Providing constructive feedback and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Working collaboratively with fellow members, staff, and external stakeholders.
4. Breaches of the Code of Conduct
4.1 In line with dispute resolution procedures articulated within the Constitution, If a member is found to have breached the Constitution, this Code, or any other directive of the organisation, the ACSV may take appropriate action, including but not limited to:
Providing a formal warning or mediation.
Suspending or revoking membership in cases of serious misconduct.
Reporting any unlawful behaviour to the relevant authorities.
4.2 Allegations of misconduct will be reviewed by the ACSV Board, ensuring due process and fairness in decision-making.
4.3 Reports of misconduct can be made via our website or by emailing the Integrity Officer: integrity@studentvoice.org.au.
5. Monitoring and Review
5.1 This Code of Conduct will be reviewed annually to ensure it remains relevant and aligned with ACSV’s mission and values.
5.2 Any amendments will be approved by the National Office and communicated to all members.
6. Adoption
This Membership Code of Conduct was adopted by the National Office on 18 March 2025.
