Volunteer Code of Conduct

2. Purpose and scope 

2.1 The Australian Council for Student Voice Ltd. (ACSV) is committed to fostering a volunteer environment that creates a safe, inclusive, and impactful experience for all. 

2.2 Our vision is to create a community where volunteering is valued, diverse participation is celebrated, and individuals collectively contribute to our thriving community. 

2.3 This volunteer code of conduct is aligned with the principles and objectives of the National Strategy for Volunteering. This policy should be read in conjunction with our community code of conduct. 

 

3. Volunteer engagement objectives 

3.1 We are committed to the following overarching objectives, to set the tone for the engagement of volunteers. 

3.2 We prioritise the safety, inclusivity, and meaningfulness of the volunteer experience, ensuring it is not exploitative and promotes positive outcomes for both volunteers and the community. 

3.3 We strive to create environments that are culturally and psychologically safe and inclusive for all individuals, regardless of background or ability. 

3.4 We recognise and celebrate the diverse impact of volunteering, striving to articulate its value and significance in our work. 

3.5 We are committed to creating the right conditions for volunteers to thrive, including comprehensive policies, strategic investment, and strong leadership support. 

3.6 We strive to provide volunteers with opportunities that align with their motivations and aspirations, ensuring efficient use of their time and communicating the difference made by their involvement. 

 

4. Volunteer Expectations 

4.1 All volunteers are expected to embody the following behaviours: 

4.1.1 Commitment to mission: Volunteers acknowledge and embrace our mission and values, diligently working towards collective objectives and goals. 

4.1.2 Respect and Dignity: Volunteers treat all individuals with respect, dignity, and kindness, fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and heard. 

4.1.3 Integrity and Honesty: Volunteers conduct themselves with integrity and honesty in all interactions and tasks, maintaining transparency and confidentiality when required. 

4.1.4 Reliability and Accountability: Volunteers fulfill their commitments and responsibilities to the best of their abilities, communicating promptly if unable to meet obligations and providing necessary assistance in finding solutions. 

4.1.5 Professionalism: Volunteers represent the ACSV professionally in conduct, appearance, and communication, refraining from behaviours that may compromise its reputation. 

4.1.6 Safety and wellbeing: Volunteers prioritise the safety and well-being of themselves and others, adhering to safety guidelines, reporting hazards or concerns promptly, and seeking assistance when necessary. 

4.1.7 Collaboration and teamwork: Volunteers collaborate effectively with other volunteers, staff members, and stakeholders, contributing positively to team dynamics and fostering cooperation, mutual support, and innovation. 

4.1.8 Continuous Learning and Improvement: Volunteers seek opportunities for learning and skill development to enhance their effectiveness, welcoming feedback, reflecting on experiences, and striving for continuous improvement. 

4.1.9 Adherence to Policies and Regulations: Volunteers familiarise themselves with and adhere to our policies, rules, and regulations, respecting legal and ethical guidelines governing volunteer activities. 

 

5. Conflict Resolution 

5.1 In the event of conflicts or disagreements, volunteers approach them constructively and respectfully, seeking resolution through dialogue and mediation.  

5.2 Issues are escalated to the Board of Directors if necessary, aiming for fair and equitable resolutions. 

 

6. Monitoring and review 

6.1 This policy shall be reviewed annually and revised as necessary to ensure its effectiveness and alignment with legal, regulatory, and organisational requirements. 

6.2 Amendments to this policy shall be approved by the board of directors and communicated to all relevant stakeholders. 

 

7. Adoption 

7.1 This policy was adopted by the board of directors on 23 May 2024.
