ACSV Submission to Tasmanian Inquiry into Discrimination & Bullying in Schools

The ACSV have been invited by the Parliament of Tasmania to make a submission into their inquiry into discrimination and bullying in schools.

The inquiry will cover:

  • Instances of direct and indirect discrimination, prohibited conduct, unequal and disadvantageous treatment, bullying, and harassment involving students and staff.

  • Measures required to prevent and remedy such discrimination and bullying.

  • Obligations and duties of schools under the Anti-Discrimination Act 1998 and other relevant statutes and policies.

  • Current efforts by schools to meet these obligations and recommendations for improvements.

  • Potential legislative or policy reforms needed to address these issues.

  • The impact of discrimination and bullying on student participation, retention, and educational outcomes, as well as on staff recruitment, retention, workplace safety, and career development.
