ACSV Submission to Tasmanian Inquiry into Discrimination & Bullying in Schools
The ACSV have been invited by the Parliament of Tasmania to make a submission into their inquiry into discrimination and bullying in schools.
The inquiry will cover:
Instances of direct and indirect discrimination, prohibited conduct, unequal and disadvantageous treatment, bullying, and harassment involving students and staff.
Measures required to prevent and remedy such discrimination and bullying.
Obligations and duties of schools under the Anti-Discrimination Act 1998 and other relevant statutes and policies.
Current efforts by schools to meet these obligations and recommendations for improvements.
Potential legislative or policy reforms needed to address these issues.
The impact of discrimination and bullying on student participation, retention, and educational outcomes, as well as on staff recruitment, retention, workplace safety, and career development.
